Minimally invasive distal radius plating: are outcomes better?

چکیده

Introduction Recently, the technique of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) can also be applied to volar locking plates in distal radius fractures. The advantages of MIPO are fracture healing, a quick return to activities of daily life, and cosmetics as a result of the preservation of the soft tissue compared with conventional plate osteosynthesis. The purpose of the present study was to test the hypothesis that using MIPO for distal radius fractures would achieve better radiologic, clinical, and cosmetic outcomes in volar locking plate fixation compared with conventional methods in consecutive patients performed by a single surgeon in one institution.

Minimally invasive plating osteosynthesis for mid-distal third humeral shaft fractures.

Mid-distal third humeral shaft fractures can be effectively treated with minimally invasive plating osteosynthesis and intramedullary nailing (IMN). However, these 2 treatments have not been adequately compared. Forty-seven patients (47 fractures) with mid-distal third humeral shaft fractures were randomly allocated to undergo either minimally invasive plating osteosynthesis (n=24) or IMN (n=23...

Distal radius fractures: Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis with dorsal bicolumnar locking plates fixation

BACKGROUND Controversy still exists regarding the current treatment modalities for unstable distal radius fractures. There are yet few articles investigating the efficacy of bicolumnar dorsal plating technique, which is designed to minimize tissue dissection while providing sufficiently secure fixation. A clinical study was performed to evaluate the feasibility of the minimally invasive plate o...

Minimally Invasive Surgical Approach to Distal Fibula Fractures: A Technique Tip

Wound complications following ankle fracture surgery are a major concern. Through the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques some of these complications can be mitigated. Recent investigations have reported on percutaneous fixation of distal fibula fractures demonstrating similar radiographic and functional outcomes to traditional open approaches. The purpose of this manuscript is to ...

Is minimally invasive application by intramedullary osteosynthesis in comparison with volar plating real benefit in the treatment of distal radius fractures?

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Can minimally invasive intramedullary osteosynthesis of distal radius fractures provide better therapeutic results than multidirectional locking plates. Retrospective study of 68 patients operated for distal radius fractures, 18 were treated with intramedullary X-screw (XSCR) fixation and 50 with the multidirectional angle-stable plate system (APTUS). The evaluation at 1-ye...

Wrist function recovers more rapidly after volar locked plating than after external fixation but the outcomes are similar after 1 year

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Promising results have been reported after volar locked plating of unstable dorsally displaced distal radius fractures. We investigated whether volar locked plating results in better patient-perceived, objective functional and radiographic outcomes compared to the less invasive external fixation. PATIENTS AND METHODS 63 patients under 70 years of age, with an unstable e...
